Who are we?

The Sanders Centre for the Person-Centred Approach (SCPCA)  is a collaborative project between practitioners of the person centred approach. Our intention is to create a centre for learning, inspiration and collaboration – where people who are interested in the person centred approach can share ideas and interests. We hope to bring together people who wish to apply person centred principles in their own life, their work within the health, education and social care sectors, for example; it’s reach is arguably, infinite.

The idea for such a Centre, initially an Institute, was Pete Sanders’. From the inception of the project, Pete was, as he called it, a silent partner. Further discussion followed over a number of years. We have, more recently, discussed the centre with Maggie Sanders and asked her permission to name it after Pete; to honour his idea and the involvement and his passion for the approach. Maggie and family gave their wholehearted consent.

A principal interest of the Centre is to focus on how a person-centred approach, fundamentally a non-directive approach, retains its potential to be revolutionary in the myriad of settings in which we find ourselves. Those involved are based in England, Scotland, Wales and Canada, and we hope to connect with others around the world.
